What We Are
The Scam Hotline, operated by One Buck Capital, publishes educational content: explanations of how common scams work, warning signs to watch for, and practical steps families can take to prepare and respond. Our books, guides, tools, and website content exist to help you recognize manipulation and make informed decisions.
What We Are Not
- Not law enforcement. If you are in danger, call 911. To report a crime, contact your local police or the FBI at ic3.gov. We do not take scam reports ourselves — we point you to the agencies that do, including ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
- Not legal advice. Nothing on this website or in our products is legal advice. For legal questions, consult a licensed attorney in your state.
- Not financial advice. We are not financial advisors, and nothing we publish is a recommendation about your investments, accounts, or money decisions. For financial questions, talk to your bank or a licensed financial professional.
- Not a recovery service. No one — including us — can guarantee the recovery of money lost to a scam. Be extremely cautious of anyone who promises recovery for an upfront fee; "recovery scams" that target prior victims are among the cruelest schemes we cover.
No Guarantee of Outcomes
Scams evolve constantly, and no education, checklist, or safeguard can prevent every scam. Our products and content are designed to make you and your family harder to deceive and better prepared to respond — not to make anyone "scam proof." How you use the information, and the results you get, depend on your own circumstances and decisions.
Accuracy and Currency of Information
We draw our guidance from publicly documented scam cases and the published resources of the Federal Trade Commission, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, the AARP Fraud Watch Network, and official agency contacts. We verify phone numbers and reporting links before publishing and show a last-reviewed date on our pages. Even so, scams, agency contacts, and procedures change; we cannot guarantee that every detail is current at the moment you read it. When money or safety is on the line, verify directly with the agency or institution involved.

Our website links to government agencies and other third-party resources. We provide these for your convenience; we do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices.
Emergencies
This website is not monitored in real time and is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911. If money has just moved, call your bank's fraud department immediately — the phone number on the back of your card, not a number from a text or email.
